“The cries of innocence from behind bars often fall on deaf ears.  And until this past April, there wasn’t a program in Oregon for those who actually meant it.”  Central Oregon’s KTVZ news reported on the newly founded Oregon Innocence Project, created by a group of lawyers, including MLR attorney Janis Puracal.  Deschutes County District Attorney-elect John Hummel joined with OIP Legal Director, Steve Wax, at an event in Bend on Thursday evening and commented, “We’re not in conflict when we say the guilty should be convicted and the innocent should go free.”
