Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) Coverage

Most automobile insurance policies provide uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage.  This coverage permits a policyholder to recover benefits from their insurance company when the at-fault driver does not have sufficient insurance to cover the policyholder’s damages.  These claims are often vitally important because UM/UIM coverage may be a policyholder’s only source of insurance coverage.  UM/UIM coverage is often governed by statute, which can present difficult questions about whether coverage is available under a policy.  These disputes frequently present complex questions regarding waiver of UM/UIM insurance coverage, the amount of benefits available under an insurance policy, and damages.  In addition, the MLR attorneys are familiar with the limitations, exceptions and exclusions to UM/UIM coverage that may apply to a particular claim.
